Prices for tomatoes are further rising, reaching Rs 250 a kilogram. Here’s how to get tomatoes for Rs 90 in Delhi NCR and other cities

Tomato prices are still high in retail marketplaces, and on Saturday, July 15, they increased to Rs 250 per kilogram throughout the major towns.

According to official statistics, the average price throughout all of India remained at close to Rs 117 per kilogram. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) were recently instructed by the Department of Consumer Affairs to purchase tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra with immediate effect for simultaneous distribution in major consumption centers where retail prices have skyrocketed in the past month.

In keeping with this, the Center is offering tomatoes in a few locations, including Delhi-NCR, Patna, and Lucknow, at a reduced price of Rs 90 per kg.

On behalf of the Center, the NCCF and NAFED are selling tomatoes from mobile vans.

The national capital’s 100 or so Kendriya Bhandar stores will begin selling tomatoes as of today. Additionally, Mother Dairy is reportedly in discussions to sell tomatoes via its 400 Safal retail locations in Delhi-NCR.

The Department of Consumer Affairs said that the average retail price of tomatoes in all of India was Rs. 116.86 per kg on Saturday, with the top and lowest prices being Rs. 250 per kg and Rs. 25 per kg, respectively. The average cost per kilogram of the vegetable is Rs 100.

Typically, the peak tomato pricing seasons are July–August and October–November. Tomato prices have sharply increased as a consequence of a poor growing season and supply interruption brought on by the monsoon.

To help customers cope with the high cost of tomatoes, the government has begun selling the household item at a reduced price of 90 rupees per kilogram in a number of locations throughout the nation, including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, and Muzaffarpur.

However, the consumer may only purchase 2 kilograms of the common vegetable.

Where to get tomatoes at bargain prices:

These tomato mobile vans go on sale at 11 am. According to reports, tomato-selling mobile vans have been set up in Bata Chowk in Faridabad, IFFCO Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk in Gurugram, as well as 17 other locations in Delhi, such as Lajpat Nagar, North and South Avenue, Greater Kailash, Mayur Vihar, Trilokpuri, Dwarka, Mayapuri, Pitampura, and others.

Several areas in Delhi, including Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Pusa Road, CGO Complex, Nehru Place, Govind Lal Shika Marg, Adarsh Nagar, JJ Slum in Wazirpur, and Dhodhapur Shivmandir, received twenty mobile vans at subsidized prices.

Since tomatoes are “an absolute essential” to Indians’ everyday life, the skyrocketing cost of tomatoes in the retail sector has caused family finances in the majority of cities to collapse.
