‘Close to 500’: Former BCCI head selector claims India star will be ‘deadly’ vs. Australia before World Cup

In the first two One Day Internationals (ODIs) of the important series against Australia, Team India will be without the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma and ex-captain Virat Kohli. India has recalled veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and youngster Washington Sundar to its team for the ODI series before taking on the record-time champions in its explosive ICC World Cup opener. Along with batting greats Kohli and Rohit, the opening two ODIs of the Australia series will not include vice captain Hardik Pandya or spinner Kuldeep Yadav.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-192544″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-close-to-500-former-bcci-head-selector-claims-india-star-will-be-deadly-vs-austral.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com close to 500 former bcci head selector claims india star will be deadly vs austral” width=”1327″ height=”747″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-close-to-500-former-bcci-head-selector-claims-india-star-will-be-deadly-vs-austral.jpg 549w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-close-to-500-former-bcci-head-selector-claims-india-star-will-be-deadly-vs-austral-390×220.jpg 390w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-close-to-500-former-bcci-head-selector-claims-india-star-will-be-deadly-vs-austral-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1327px) 100vw, 1327px” title=”'Close to 500': Former BCCI head selector claims India star will be 'deadly' vs. Australia before World Cup 6″>

India has interestingly picked two teams for a three-match series. After Axar Patel sustained a hamstring injury during the Asia Cup, veteran off-spinner Ashwin, who was not selected for India’s World Cup team, has rejoined the white-ball setup. If all-rounder Axar is unable to demonstrate his match fitness for the ICC tournament, Ashwin may have a chance to make the Men In Blue World Cup team. Axar is included in the Indian team for the third ODI, however his participation is contingent on his physical condition.

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) head selector MSK Prasad issued an early warning to the foreign team when discussing Ashwin’s comeback to the Indian squad for the ODI series on Star Sports. On the program Follow the Blues, Prasad remarked, “This is very good news, and I’ve said it before as well: Ashwin will be a handy option for the Indian team that too at home.”

Ashwin’s amazing performance in India

With 712 victories under his belt, Ashwin is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in international cricket. The lower-order hitter and standout spinner has a stellar home bowling record. In India, Ashwin has taken 424 wickets in all competitions. The top-ranked Test bowler has appeared in 118 games for India’s national team. Ashwin has taken more international wickets at home than any other spinner save the great Anil Kumble (476).

“He’ll be lethal,”

“He has taken around 500 wickets in all three forms played in India. These days, every club has at least three or four left-handers, therefore he will be devastating against them. Prasad said, “I hope he can do well against Australia and be chosen for the World Cup team as well. In January 2022, Ashwin made his last ODI appearance for India.
