Audio and video calls are coming to X, but only for certain users

According to XCorp’s plans, premium, subscription-only users will soon be able to make audio and video conversations. XCorp CEO Linda Yaccarino previously said that the platform would soon include video calls as part of its shift to being a “everything app.”

The new technology in the X app, which permits audio and video conversations from other Verified users, from individuals they follow, or from anyone in their contact book, was unveiled by tech veteran-turned-investor Chris Messina.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-205440″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sp-is-one-of-six-policemen-charged-in-punjab-for-torturing-an-attorney-download-20.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com sp is one of six policemen charged in punjab for torturing an attorney download 20″ width=”1287″ height=”721″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sp-is-one-of-six-policemen-charged-in-punjab-for-torturing-an-attorney-download-20.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sp-is-one-of-six-policemen-charged-in-punjab-for-torturing-an-attorney-download-20-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1287px) 100vw, 1287px” title=”Audio and video calls are coming to X, but only for certain users 3″>

Messina wrote on X’s competitor Threads, “X will be introducing voice and video conversations soon, as implied in Linda’s sizzle reel. Since Skype is no longer in use, “you will, of course, have to pay for that feature,” he said.

Take communications to the next level with voice and video conversations, says the feature’s description.

“Select who you feel comfortable using the feature with after turning it on.”

After experiencing a significant amount of churn in the previous several months, including significant layoffs and platform modifications, Yaccarino said last month that the firm is on the cusp of breaking even. Yaccarino said that video calls would soon be available on the platform in her first TV interview since taking over as CEO of X Corp. The platform intends to become a “everything app” similar to China’s WeChat.

I’ve been working here for eight weeks. We’re quite close to breaking even at the current operational run rate,” she was reported as adding. The CEO of X said that soon “you won’t have to give your phone number to anyone on the platform in order to make video chat calls.”

She also discussed additional features, including long-form films and creator subscriptions, as well as upcoming plans for electronic payments. Musk has long wished for Twitter to develop into “an everything app” a la WeChat in China.
