Tejaswin, who hadn’t competed since October of last year, won the World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event on Saturday with a 2.23-meter leap.

Jesse Sandesh, another Indian competitor, leapt 2.09 meters to finish tied for tenth place.

The national records for the men’s high jump and decathlon are held by Tejaswin, a 25-year-old. He has made the decathlon his top priority in recent years. The decathlon silver medalist from the Asian Games, however, is concentrating on his favorite event this year—high jump—with the goal of qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where the men’s high jump qualification standard is set at 2.33 meters.

Tejaswin requested financial support earlier this month from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) in order to participate in continental tour competitions in Europe.

He will compete in the Hvezdy vs. Nehvizdech athletics event in Nehvizdy, the Czech Republic, on February 20, after the Belgium meet.
