IND vs. ENG: Because of a knee injury, Jack Leach was ruled out of the remaining test series

Jack Leach’s injury on Sunday handed a serious blow to Ben Stokes’ England as he will miss the remainder of the Test series against India. The spinner sustained the injury during England’s first-round triumph in the Test match in Hyderabad, which resulted in him having to play a limited part and missing the second-round match in Vizag.

In an official statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that the 32-year-old would return home and undergo rehabilitation under the guidance of the ECB and the medical staff from Somerset. The statement went on to say that the visitors would not be calling in a replacement for the spinner.

The official release said, “Jack Leach has been ruled out of the remainder of England Men’s Test tour of India due to a left knee injury.”

“Leach was injured during England’s first-round triumph in the Test match in Hyderabad and was unable to play in the second Test in Vizag as a consequence. Within the next twenty-four hours, he will take out from Abu Dhabi, where the England squad has been billeted ahead of this Thursday’s third Test in Rajkot.

It further said that “Leach will work closely with the medical teams in Somerset and England regarding his rehabilitation.”

Due to Leach’s absence in Vizag, Shoaib Bashir, a teammate from Somerset, was selected for the playing XI and made his international debut by taking four wickets. Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley joined the latter in England’s spin assault; the three had just three caps each into the second match.

Thursday sees the series restart in Rajkot with a 1-1 deadlock after India’s 106-run triumph in Vizag.

The BCCI also revealed the team for the last three Test matches on Saturday. The injured pair of Rahul and Jadeja have been included in the series, although their participation is contingent only on the BCCI medical team’s certification for fitness. Virat Kohli will miss the rest of the series. However, Akash Deep, an uncapped fast bowler, has received his first-ever call-up to the India Test team.

The Test team has parted ways with Shreyas Iyer. After being called up for the second Test, Avesh Khan has also been left out of the lineup. Both all-rounder Washington Sundar and Sarfaraz Khan, who was called up for the first time in Test cricket for the Vizag match, have retained their spots.
