IND vs. ENG: Ravichandran Ashwin Overtakes Anil Kumble with a 36th Test five-wicket haul

On day three of the fifth and final Test of the five-match series at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the most wickets for India with his 36th Test five-wicket haul, overtaking Anil Kumble.

Ashwin reached these figures in only 100 tests, whereas Kumble needed 132 tests to do the same thing.

Kumble and Ashwin have both claimed eight career 10-wicket totals.

The second inning for England proceeded very quickly as the batsmen mostly tried to attack the Indian spinners in an attempt to survive, but they were unsuccessful once again.

Ben Stokes (2), the captain of England, looked pitiful after being hit by Ashwin with a straighter shot just before lunch. In order for India to bat again, England will need to score 157 runs, which seems improbable.

In addition to starting the bowling with Ashwin, Bumrah led the side in the middle as Rohit Sharma did not take the field because of a sore back.

In his 100th Test match, Ashwin defeated England’s first player, Ben Duckett (2), once again. The southpaw, who had had difficulty containing Ashwin in the earlier games, attempted to counterattack by charging down the wicket, but he was unable to get close to the ball’s pitch, which resulted in his bowling demise.

With some spin and bounce in the pitch, Ashwin had a leg slip in place for Zak Crawley (0). When Sarfaraz Khan was playing leg-slip, the England opener received an inside edge on the pads and deflected right into his hands.

Ashwin’s third victim was the tentative opener, Ollie Pope (19). Once again, an England batsman made a mistake in judgment by attempting an outrageous sweep off a ball that was on the shorter side and went right to the arm.

Playing his 100th Test match, Jonny Baristow (39 off 31) joined Joe Root in the middle and attacked right away. Bairstow used his spin to his advantage, hitting three massive sixes off Ashwin on the onside before Kuldeep Yadav declared him leg before wicket.

Earlier, India could only muster four more runs to their overnight total, finishing with 477 to England’s 218.

In less than twenty minutes, the foreign team concluded India’s innings, as seasoned player James Anderson achieved the milestone of 700 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed for his second five-wicket haul in his first series by rookie off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.
